Web design tips&tricks - Part 1

Please read the introduction before reading part 1 - 6.

So here we are at Part 1 - Provide quality (but also quantity) content.

This is one of the most important things you should keep in mind. What do visitors visit your site for? It may be for fun, to take a look around, to keep in touch - whatever the reason, most of them are hungry for content. Content is the most important thing in your site. Without content, your site is barely anything.

Since we're talking about web design, "content" can be referred as resources, graphics, designs (AKA layouts), articles, etc. So, basically, if you're making a web graphics site, you should put a great amount of effort into what you do. Do it well - and don't stop after your first design either.

What I'm talking about is - Some designs might not suit your visitors' tastes, but another might. Just like how my favorite color is blue, I might like graphics with a blue-ish touch. But not everyone thinks the same. That's where quantity takes place. There are two things worth thinking about in regards of Quantity - Tastes (as I explained) and, basically quantity, which means some visitors might like more than just one or two designs, and they're hungry for more. This is also where updates take place, but we shall get into that later on.

Quality: To do quality work, you must put a lot of effort into what you do. Some people might agree with me if I would say that putting effort into something doesn't always mean it'll turn out great. You know the saying "Nobody is perfect"? Well nothing is either. In the web design community, at least. The amount of effort that is put into a design determines the quality of it most of the time, but not always. Sometimes being simple is good too. Like the saying "Simple is more".

Also, you might hear this a lot but, Practice, practice, practice! The more you mess up, the more you experiment, the better you are. Experiment new styles, try new things, mix things up. You might just turn out with something you can call your own!

Do not copy someone else's style/content. Remember, YOUR originality is what distinguishes your site from others, and is also what makes your visitors keep coming!

Quantity: To it well, and do a lot, as I said before. Yes, yes, Quality IS over Quantity but Quantity is important too. I would rather see a site with 5 or 6 marvelous icons rather than a site with 929849 poorly designed icons that nobody would use. And you know what's even better than the 1st example? A site with 929849 amazing icons! You always hear the old saying, Quality over Quantity, however, Quality AND Quantity is even better.

Keep these things in mind, and you're ready for Part 2 - Take good care of your visitors!
